The Balance Project ("we", "our" or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information entrusted to us.

Depending on how you interact with The Balance Project, we may collect information including:

• Transaction information: information relating to payments, purchases, invoices and transactions. Payment card details may be processed directly by our payment service providers rather than stored by us.
• Member directory information: professional information that you choose or consent to make available to other verified members.
We aim to collect only information that is reasonably necessary for our business activities and the services we provide.
Information collected through third-party platforms
We may receive personal information that you submit through third-party services or platforms, including Facebook, Instagram or other advertising, booking, membership or communications platforms.
Where reasonably required by the Privacy Act 2020, we will take steps to ensure you are aware that we have collected this information, why we have collected it, who may receive it and your rights in relation to it.
Third-party platforms may also independently collect and process information in accordance with their own privacy policies.

• Business partners: Local businesses or other partners providing member benefits or perks. Where membership verification is required, we aim to provide only the information reasonably necessary for that purpose.
• Member directory: Where you have chosen or consented to participate, selected professional information may be visible to other verified members.
• Professional advisers: Accountants, legal advisers, technology providers or other professional advisers where reasonably necessary.
• Legal and regulatory requirements: Government agencies, regulators, law enforcement or other parties where disclosure is required or permitted by law, or reasonably necessary to protect our legal rights or the safety of our members, customers or others.
We require service providers handling personal information on our behalf to handle that information appropriately and use it only for authorised purposes.
Overseas and cloud-based service providers
Some of the technology and service providers we use may store or process personal information outside New Zealand.
Where personal information is disclosed to an overseas organisation, we will take reasonable steps to comply with the requirements of the Privacy Act 2020 relating to overseas disclosure and the protection of personal information.
In some circumstances, overseas service providers may store or process information on our behalf rather than receive it for their own purposes.

The Balance Project app may send push notifications relating to member updates, bookings, events, reminders, member benefits or other relevant information.
You can manage or disable push notifications through your device settings.
Device permissions
Depending on the functionality you use, our app may request permission to access services or features on your device, such as:
• Calendar: to allow you to add relevant events or bookings to your calendar;
• Notifications: to provide relevant alerts and updates; and
• Network access: to access online member content, bookings and other app functionality.
You can manage applicable permissions through your device settings.
Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, to provide our services, meet legitimate business requirements, resolve disputes and comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations.
When personal information is no longer reasonably required, we will take reasonable steps to delete or anonymise it.
Closing a membership account does not necessarily mean that all associated information will be immediately deleted where we have a lawful or legitimate reason to retain particular records.
Children's privacy
The Balance Project's memberships and services are primarily intended for adults and are not directed at children.
We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children through our website, app or advertising. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child where it is not reasonably required, we will take appropriate steps to address it.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our services, technology, business practices or legal requirements.
The current version will be published on our website with the date it was last updated.
Where a change is material and it is appropriate to do so, we may also notify members by email, through our app or by another appropriate method.
